Whether its when you're lounging in your room, or on the train ride home, music can really set the mood and keep you busy for hours. If you're like me, even if we aren't specifically wearing lolita, or if we are, we like to keep whatever we can lolita-ish (yeah that's a word) whenever we can. Here's a list and brief descriptions for artist I personally recommend. From dark genres for gothics, classical for, well, classicals, and bubbly pop for sweets, and some stuff in between. In no specific order...
♚Kanon Wakeshima - A vocalist and cellist, her songs are very storybook-like, perfectly capturing young girl's hearts.
♚Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - A vocalist known for her wacky style, her bubbly songs were made to celebrate girl's lives.
♚Versailles (Philharmonic Quintet) - A visual rock band, as you can tell from their name, they were heavily influenced by aristocrat style. Amazing melodies with a powerful vocal.
♚Malice Mizer - I want to say "come one", I mean of course right?? But this is supposed to be informative.. alright well, a gothic band that kicked off a movement. Lolita's lifeblood.
♚Yiruma - A pianist with beautiful, often sad, compositions.
♚the GazettE - Another visual rock band, despite the darkness of their sound, a lot of melodies are very beautiful.
♚DIR EN GREY - One of the classic japanese metal bands. They used to be visual but graduated from it as they got older. Their newer songs are very melodic and experimental. Just avoid watching their music videos if you're the squeamish type.
♚Matenrou Opera - Japanese rock band that had ballad-like instrumentals.
♚Rose Niore - A beautifully gothic duo who are based in classical music but branch off into their own sound. I can't find any recent discography but they still seem to be an active group.
♚Alan Hovhannes - A classical composer whose symphonies are meant to evoke thoughts of nature. Very calming to listen to.
♚Perfume - Popular pop group in Japan, they've also had a lot of success world wide. They've created so many sounds that you're bound to find a song by them that fits your mood.
Bonus:
While not a band or artist, there are musicians that create music box versions of a lot of songs. Search around, there's probably a music box version of one of your favorite songs. My personal favorites are from KYOTO MUSIC BOX ENSEMBLE who created lovely renditions of songs from Studio Ghibli films.
Next for music I'm planning on making a list separately for Vocaloid songs that go well with lolita.
Nice idea for a post, I will check out these suggestions! I love Perfume ^_^
